2010 album from the Metal outfit. Nucleus is Dawnbringer’s strongest work to date, once again proving Black to be one of the most creative and talented musicians in the underground. Incorporating elements from NWOBHM, Progressive, traditional and melodic Death Metal, it has all the ingredients of a true classic Heavy Metal album.

Hold your fire, for you are about to be blown away. There are four, young, hairy men who hail from the North of England; Leeds to be precise. They call themselves Gentleman s Pistols and their mission is to shoot you down with an incendiary attitude and relentless round of riffs. The brandishing of such hyper charged rock artillery has not been witnessed on these shores since the demise of Britain s golden era of grebo rock, back in the heady daze of 1972. Imagine the rawness of Sir Lord Baltimore with the heavy groove of Free. Add to it the melodic styling of The Sweet s heavy B-Sides and you re getting close to what is unleashed in the music of Gentleman s Pistols; a sound reminiscent of many of the great unsung bands of that era and with it a completely original and organic freshness of its own. Before even releasing an album and with just a handful of 7 only vinyl releases, the Gentleman s Pistols have already gained themselves a legendary cult status. These guys have been demolishing the toilets up and down the UK ever since their formation in 2003. So far they have shared the stage with acts as diverse as Scissorfight, Witchcraft, Circulus, Firebird, Leaf Hound & Saviours, and have astonished audiences with their melding of classic Heavy Rock-riffing and convincingly energetic, near punk-rock delivery. Though this is only Graveyard’s second album, they are known for their doom metal meets stoner rock debut album that brought them Stateside for a stellar and muchhyped live event at South by Southwest in 2008. Since then, the band have acquired a remarkable maturity that takes them far beyond their roots and into truly unique territory. They are a band whose influences can be heard, but who blend the varied sounds into a coherent, original album that is absolutely faithful and devoid of irony.

With Hisingen Blues, Graveyard have catapulted themselves into that rare space where authenticity is evident and effortless and the result is simultaneously catchy and surprising. Their natural understanding of both rock and the blues lends itself to a fluid sound that instantly transcends any retro tags. They have played with Witchcraft, Electric Wizard and Clutch though they would just as easily have fit in with bands like Cream and The Yardbirds. It’s their ability to be timeless and innovative that makes them such a memorable and unique band. Hisingen Blues proves that rock’s golden age may be long gone, but the best days are certainly not behind us if its students continue to bring the rock like Graveyard do.
